Sky City

Core mechanics

Q1. What is a magnetic core?

Every detached isle hides a magnetic core. Activating it triggers a short cinematic that fuses the isle back into the world map and immediately opens new passages at the seam. It's Islets' main progression + exploration mechanic.

Q2. Do I lose anything on death?

No. Islets uses a no-penalty death model: Iko respawns at the last save with all currency, upgrades, and progress intact. Feel free to experiment with jumps and combat.

Q3. How long is the game?

HowLongToBeat medians: main story ~7.5 h, main + extras ~8 h, completionist ~9.5 h. At 1–2 hours per day, you can finish the main story in about a week.

Q4. Can I change difficulty mid-run?

Yes. Pick assist / challenge sliders at new game, and you can also adjust inbound damage, outbound damage, and enemy HP at any time in Options → Difficulty.

Q5. Is there Chinese language support?

Yes — full Simplified Chinese text (NPC, letters, menus). No voice acting. Other languages: English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese (BR), Russian.

Gameplay and getting stuck

Q6. Should I brute-force unreachable ledges and breakable walls?

No. Islets uses a lot of "ability gating". Ledges usually need Double Jump / Wall Climb / Cloud Shot; metal crates need the Plunge. When blocked, mentally check it off and keep moving — come back with the right ability.

Q7. What do I do when a boss keeps beating me?

Three checks:

  1. Is there an unexplored exit in this area? Bypassing can be faster than retrying.
  2. Your latest ability usually affects both movement and combat; rethink it.
  3. Grab a few permanent upgrades (sword, bow, health) and try again — one more heart is often the difference.

Death is free and difficulty is adjustable.

Q8. How do I practice airship fights?

Airship combat is bullet-hell; your hitbox is the small inner circle, not the whole ship. Learn enemy patterns, prioritise survival, and wait for the boss's boomerang / cannon windows. The first Sky Pirates fight has no weapon on your side — survive until its boomerang returns to damage it.

Q9. Do I have to fight bosses in a fixed order?

The main island path is largely linear, but backtracking is free after each fusion. Boss Rush requires finishing the main game first.

Q10. How should I pick from the three upgrade options?

There's no single "correct" pick. Address the challenge that just frustrated you: Health if bosses chunk you, Arrows if ranged enemies pick you off, Sword if combat feels slow. See the upcoming upgrade guide for more detail.

Q11. Best way to spend currency?

Almost every shop item is useful. Common priority: map markers (saves time when lost) > airship upgrades (improve air combat) > sword / arrow / health upgrades.

Q12. What can I do after finishing the game?

Beat the main story to unlock Boss Rush (Normal / Hard / No-hit) and revisit the remaining letters, side quests, and hidden rooms. The full Steam set is 44 achievements.

Light spoilers: abilities

Q13. Is Double Jump the first ability?

Approximately. Double Jump is the first major movement ability earned through the early story, opening up most vertical exploration. It's worth backtracking after acquiring it.

Q14. When do I get Wall Climb?

Shortly after Double Jump through the main story. Exact order will be detailed in the upcoming abilities & upgrades page.

Q15. What is Cloud Shot?

An arrow upgrade that leaves a cloud platform in its wake, useful for crossing gaps and blocking certain traps. It becomes a go-to for tricky puzzles and combat spacing.
